In this interview, we sit down with Feroze Jacob, Senior Pre-Sales Consultant and Business Analyst at Xcellerate IT, to learn about his extensive experience in business process automation and his journey with our team. With over 15 years in the industry, Feroze brings valuable insights on intelligent automation and digital transformation.
Can you tell us a bit about your background and how you got into business process automation?
Currently working as a Senior Pre-Sales Consultant and Business Analyst at Xcellerate IT, I have over 15 years of experience in the process automation domain. Throughout my career, I have successfully delivered numerous automation projects across Australia and New Zealand, helping organisations streamline operations and improve efficiency.
I was first introduced to Business Process Management (BPM) during my time at Canon NZ, where I discovered the possibilities of document automation. In my early years, I had the opportunity to work on several exciting projects that expanded my knowledge and skills in business process automation, shaping my expertise in the field.
That's quite an extensive background. What brought you to Xcellerate IT, and what do you enjoy most about working here?
This is my second tenure with Xcellerate IT, drawn back by the opportunity to work on challenging projects and collaborate with a diverse range of customers. The dynamic environment and innovative solutions continue to make Xcellerate IT an exciting place to contribute and grow.
Could you tell us more about your current role? How would you describe it in a few sentences?
My key responsibility is to play a crucial role in the sales process by bridging the gap between technical solutions and customer needs. I engage with prospects and customers to understand their business challenges, workflows and requirements. I am also responsible for building tailor-made demos for prospective customers. Post-sales, I conduct discovery sessions to identify pain points and align solutions with business objectives.
What does a typical day look like for you at Xcellerate IT?
Mostly I'm assisting with sales process activities and engaging with customers to understand their challenges and requirements. Each day brings new opportunities to translate complex technical concepts into practical business solutions.
With all your experience, what's a project or challenge you've worked on that really stands out?
My first project using Tungsten was both the most challenging and the most rewarding. We successfully automated claims processing for AON Insurance, resulting in a threefold increase in user productivity. It was incredibly satisfying to see such tangible results from our solution.
Those are impressive outcomes. What excites you most about the future of intelligent automation and digital transformation?
Advancements in AI and machine learning not only reduce manual effort but also unlock new possibilities for driving efficiency and innovation. I'm particularly enthusiastic about how these technologies continue to evolve and create new opportunities for businesses.

Based on your extensive experience, what advice would you give to businesses looking to streamline their processes with automation?
Start the automation journey with a clear strategy. Focus on areas that need streamlining and optimisation. Choose the technology that is proven in their domain. And importantly, focus not just on people but tangible benefits from the automations. Having clear goals and metrics makes all the difference in successful implementation.
That's excellent advice. What's a common misconception about automation that you'd like to clear up?
A common misconception is that automation leads to job losses, but in reality, it serves as a tool to empower employees, enabling them to perform their tasks more efficiently and intelligently. It's about augmenting human capabilities, not replacing them.
On a more personal note, if you weren't in this field, what do you think you'd be doing?
I would probably be a chef. I really enjoy cooking and experimenting with different flavours and techniques in the kitchen.
What's something people might not know about you?
I'm a passionate cricket fan, with a love for badminton and squash. Sports have always been an important part of my life outside of work.
Finally, a quick one – coffee or tea? And are you an early bird or night owl?
I'm definitely a coffee person, and I'm neither an early bird nor a night owl. I find my productivity sweet spot somewhere in between.
